Volunteer program South East Palliative Care is extremely proud of the achievements and successes of its Volunteer Program. We have more than 80 highly valued volunteers who assist in many ways including assistance to patients and families; fundraising activities through our Auxiliaries; and, involvement in administrative tasks assisting our office staff. The use of volunteer services is extensive and covers every area of the organisation. The uniqueness lies in the level of volunteer commitment, which is very high and reflects the degree of training and education we provide for every volunteer. In keeping with the Volunteer Management Standards - developed by the Volunteer Centre of Victoria and adopted by the Australian Council for Volunteering - and Standards for Palliative Care Service Provision, the Volunteer Program is coordinated by the Manager of Volunteer Services. Volunteer Recruitment and Training Volunteers are provided with a comprehensive training program, combining theoretical and practical components, to prepare them for their important roles in the service. Volunteers work side by side with doctors, nurses, occupational therapist, welfare worker, counseling / pastoral care, and administration staff, and can be very involved in the provision of care for patients and their families. Volunteers are an integral part of the SEPC team, where they are encouraged to participate as members of various committees along with staff members. Volunteers are actively recruited and applications are accepted throughout the year.
